Hat Sai Ree is another famous beach in Chumphon, the gate to Southern Thailand. However, it is undeniable that visitors head to Hat Sai Ree not for the “beachy” reasons but for a spiritual experience more than anything.
The clear water and the long white beach that offers a beautiful view become a bonus as most visitors visit Hat Sai Ree for the sacred shrine of Kromluang Chumphon Khet Udomsak, also known as Price Chumphon, the Father of the Thai Royal Navy. Not only was he known for his generosity as a doctor of herbal medicine and for the advancement he brought to the Thai Royal Navy, the magical power of the long gone prince is also widely known and respected by a lot of Thai people.
Another reason Hat Sai Ree is not an ideal place for relaxation is the loud noise from firecrackers people light up as a votive offering for Prince Chumphon after the wish they ask for has come true. The area also features an herb garden established by the Ministry of Public Health and the decommissioned Royal Warship “Chumphon,” both to commemorate the great son of King Rama V.
After enjoying the scenery and paying respect to the shrine, try some fresh seafood dieses at a restaurant on the beach. There are a wide range of selection you can pick from, all with reasonable price and good quality food you can savor.
From Chumphon city center, follow Highway No. 4001 for 20 kilometers. The beach is where the large Prince Chumphon Shrine is located.
